First discovered by cattle rancher Jebidiah Bane in 1839, Bane Cave is the largest cave in Uma Francine Oldman National Park. Soon after its discovery, it was turned into a mine by Sunny Duckworth, a rich businessman searching for precious jewels and ores until a large portion of the cave collapsed, killing Duckworth and shutting down the mining operation for good.
After Oldman Crater became Uma Francine Oldman National Park in 1888, Bane Cave became a popular natural attraction for visitors. Positioned just off of Sunny Trail near Wise Peak, the cave entrance provides an ideal photo opportunity for those on their way to view the lake from the park's highest point. For many years, Bane Cave has been steeped in myths and legends attracting all kinds of stories from the supernatural, to encounters with visitors from another world.
